Boat invite items
Folks with boats – Boat invite items
Keep in mind, boats aren’t cheap to buy or maintain and there are a few rules you need to follow in order to get invited back
Try to at least respect the boat and other passengers and I don’t have an issue. But don’t you dare tell me what time you need to be back to the marina. that’s a sure fire way to end up never being invited back.
In addition to this extensive and “important” list, I would also have to add the following under “Guests” or “Be Prepared”: Please, please, please wear white or light-colour-soled, non-skid and non-marking footwear!” There’s nothing worse than a guest arriving in cowboy boots (yes, we’ve had one of those guests and we made him take them off before boarding), high heels, or black-soled shoes.
We keep it simple. No guest on the boat while it’s moving – exception boat moves first to the filling station everyone pays to fill up the tanks then upon return they are filled again – it called expense sharing, we are not a charter and never will be and this type of activity fits into the Coast Guard regulations. Happens maybe once a year same people always show up we generally stay out a couple days or more – it’s the right thing to do and respectful to the boat owner. I don’t own a yacht to attract friends or entertain people at my expense. At over $100 dollars an hour in operational cost comparing a yacht to a house or car is crazy, not even close.
We have people over to our home all the time for dinner, drinks and entertainment. That is normal for some people who like that, we don’t expect anything in return but everyone that shows up always brings something because they understand things have a price in life; we don’t even ask for anything.
Generally boils down to who your friends are or who you think your friends are. You all might think this is crude, rude and harsh. It’s not, it’s called sharing and respect.
We have been to court years ago because of a slip and fall accident of a passenger (ex-friend), our insurance paid the claim after 6 months of lawyers fees that we paid given it was cheaper to settle then go through the entire process.
This being said, make sure you have excellent insurance, guarantee your passengers will hit your policy if something happens, your not covered you could loose everything in court including your boat. People don’t think of any of this until the event happens.
