The new 2015 Sea Ray 470 Sundancer
It can be a tricky balance when you're trying to freshen up a classic. Go too far, people may say you've ruined the heritage. Even at first glance it's clear that Sea Ray popular Company has struck the right balance.
Sleek and modern it looks like a Sea Ray with its classic overall shape but the lines are flowing and the windows massive. This is a beautiful boat from the outside.
When you get on board that raised bar of style is upheld nicely.
The exterior cockpit is smaller than you'd expect on older models but don't worry this is simply a sign of a new multi-use, multi-space approach. The glass doors slide out of the way opening up the main deck's entertaining area and flowing seamlessly from helm to transom. The massive sunroof retracts to let the outside in, or keep it closed to enjoy the natural lighting while being protected.
For the outdoor cooking experience, the cockpit has a full grill and wet bar set up along with L-shaped bench seating. Sea Ray's sky flow design is evident in the interior of the 470 Sundancer. It's a design concept to make the space open, airy and roomy, making an already spacious boat feel palatial. There's a lot more open space and open areas than you'd historically expect on an express coupe style sport yacht, even one that's 47 feet long. There's lots of plush seating including a raised couch opposite the helm, complete with stainless steel grab rails. There's roomy storage drawers designed to match the rest of the interior, a stainless steel drawer style refrigerator and a hideaway flat screen TV.
With walls that are almost entirely windows and that massive sunroof, this area is aptly referred to by Sea Ray as the sun room.
Luxury should extend to docking after all. Just ahead of the helm you'll notice the windshield is pushed forward, opening up the lower salon to what feels like cathedral ceilings for a 47 foot boat. Down here you have more comfortable seating with a TV and spacious and well stocked galley, including ample counter space. Looking towards the bow you'll see two doors flanking the entrance to the forward stateroom. Port side is the head, starboard is the shower.
The helm fits nicely here without being an intrusion to the social zone but still offering everything to keep the captain happy, from dual touch screen Raymarine displays, and Smartcraft VesselView, to well laid out rocker switches and analog controls to the joy stick, which on a boat this big is a very popular feature.
In the state room itself a full sized island bed above drawer storage, there are dual hanging lockers and gunnel cabinets, as well as in floor storage, and of course, another TV.
The head, featuring solid surface counter top with stainless sink, large window with
port hole and more with cabinetry. Across the hall the separate shower means twice the functionality but also a good size.
Here too with a window for more natural lighting, not bad for company. Moving back to the lower salon you'll find another door that leads to the mid-ship master state room. It's a full beam beauty with queen sized bed, and walk around access, and another TV. There's a solid surface vanity featuring a large sink and storage and always handy, a full length mirror on the solid door to the private master head and shower.
The shower, complete with teak floor, seals off with an acrylic door to keep the VacuFlush head dry. Sliding out of the marina and into the Intercoastal off Captiva Florida, the look and lines of the 470 Sundancer really jump out.
Standard power comes in the form of twin Cummins QSE 550 HO Diesel V-Drives, but you have the option of upgrading to twin Zeus CMD QSB 480 diesels.
Either way, you'll be impressed.
The sleek lines are matched with a sleek hull design, and this Sea Ray cuts through the water like a sport boat, not a big luxurious 47 foot floating condo, which it is. The well proven Sea Ray hull slices through the water and bites into corners, banking sharply but comfortably.
Top speed is 32 knots, just under 37 miles per hour. The best cruise speed is around 37 knots, or 31 miles per hour. The Sea Ray team have pulled off an impressive trifecta, a big roomy interior that feels bright and airy with plenty of space for entertaining or living, a sleek designed exterior that looks as good at the dock or on the hook as it does underway, and brilliant performance and handling, all of this in their newest addition to the legendary Sea Ray Sundancer line.

This is a new line SPX of sport boats for 2015. Take a closer look at the New Sea Ray 21 SPX outboard and its sister ship the sterndrive model. It's a new opportunity for the company and their consumers, Sea Ray the SPX lineup is a change up.
The basic goal for all of the models is to provide a great water sports platform in a family friendly runabout, so that dictates a spacious Bowrider layout.
The Company Sea Ray is also offering a huge amount of choices for their consumers with sterndrive and outboard models, plus three trim packages, select options, and a host of hull and trim accent colours.
The Sea Ray 21 SPX
Overall the design, materials and layout of the SPX models is a fresh new look for 2015 Sea Ray. The choices of Sea Ray customers reflect their focus on water fun and water sports.
If you like the choice of the outboard motor power and plan on boating with a gang, you may wish to opt up to Mercury's 200 Verado for real water fun.
Standard power for the smarter model Sea Ray 21 SPX OB is Mercury® Marine's 150 four stroke.
This relatively new 3.0 L inline four cylinder weighs in at 206. kg, or 455 lbs. significantly, less than a sterndrive.
And this reduced weight helped turn in some respectable performance numbers. Acceleration was good hitting 20 miles per hour in just over 5,9 seconds, and 30 just short of 11 seconds. Cruising at 3500 rpm. is a comfortable 27 miles per hour, given the wind and chop on day the ride was more than reasonable and surprisingly dry.
Power steering made the handling feel effortless and light when carving in and out of opposite turns. The Sea Ray 21 SPX felt quite sporty and lighter than her 3400 lbs. dry weight.
Starting at the stern even with outboard power the 21 SPX retains a large and comfortable swim platform with a four rung telescopic safe boarding ladder. The SPX boat models also boast a comfortable sun pad that converts easily into transom seating.
Choosing outboard engine power gives the SPX boat an enormous storage locker with a second locker to starboard. A hatch in the port side of boat walk through provides access to the battery and more storage and under the steps to the cockpit, there's even more storage speace. Sea Rays has maximized the size of the cockpit by narrowing the gunnels, 2015 model provide an L shaped seat aft with drained storage under the transom section
The portside seating provides flexible configurations that allow forward facing, aft for lounging and spotting and the helm has a fully adjustable bucket seat, that when combined with the molded footrest and tilt wheel ensures a comfortable position can be found, regardless of your size. The Boat's helm is minimalist and clean with multi-function gauges (see photo above) and illuminated toggle switches, the passenger console is incorporated into the cockpit liner.
The stereo system is concealed and a large storage locker in the base and there's a large board locked in the cockpit sole.
The bow area is large enough to accommodate three, two facing forward and one facing aft on the bow jump seat.
The interior provide a lot of water splashed around and it has been designed to stand up to all of the water fun.

Brand New 2015 Model The Sea Ray 290 Sundeck
Sea Ray boat brand is introducing 11 new models, including this, the latest 290 Sundeck - a lot of fun to drive.
It's great day boat for deep waters, a good sized boat that is a still very manageable.
It's wide open but well designed, at 29 feet long and 9' wide with a Deep V hull this 290 Sundeck is a luxurious and spacious deck powerboat with large capacity for 17 people.
This boat provide plenty of comfort for forward facing driving. To maximize your options the Sea Ray's seats mid ship are also convertible.
Both: passenger and captain have bolsters, but the backrests are just as easily moved.
Model are designed with more storage under the seats, here including convenient access to the batteries. Storage space on board continues as well, with a small flap.
This model has a full sink, and a good sized grill. The walk through transom offers boat owners yet another storage compartment area and makes access easy enough.
The swim platform itself is no slouch, its roomy and low to the water, but if that's not quite good enough the very cool fold down swim step serves as a great spot for water fun.
You'll find plenty of comforts from bow to stern on 290 Sundeck's board. There's an integrated folding barrier, if you want to block the wind.
The seats fold up on hydraulic hinges revealing molded storage areas and you can use the filler cushions and it converts to a large sun pad. The over-sized bow offers plenty of very comfortable seating, complete with rests and fold down. The dual transom lounge seats are sure and in addition to the comfortable reclined seating you have cup holders (see photo above to the right ), and storage within arm's reach.
The roomy port of Sea Ray 290 Sundeck side head for example serves an obvious purpose, but Sea Ray owners have used that area for storage, so they have more organized storage without having to pile equipment or things on top of the toilet.
When you're out on the water though, all that space and size seems to melt away leaving a nimble, fun and fast, ride.
Though well over 6000 lbs, the 300 HP MerCruiserengine 350 Mag sterndrive pops the comfy Sea Ray onto plane and to 20 mi/h in only 7.5 seconds, and to 30 mi/h in about 11-12 seconds.
The Sea Ray 290 Sundeck takes it all in confident stride. When you want to open it up it answers the call, reaching 35 - 40 miles per hour at 4,800 rpm, though a cruising speed of 31 miles per hour at 4000 rpm is more realistic for extended runs.
If you want to boost the power, you have the option of upgrading to the amazing 380 horsepower 8.2 L (see photo above) MerCruiser MPI engine.

I love our 2012 260 Sundeck. When we bought our 190 Sundeck 10-years ago, the guy at Sea Ray said I'll be back for another one, just bigger. He was right! Fantastic all-around family boat! We did add 4 Rockford-Fosgate 282B wake towers speakers, a 12" sub and 1500 watts of Punch series amps and replaced the four factory speakers with RF-262's to enhance the overall boating experience said Todd V.

If you're buying your first "Sea Ray" 200 used boat, or are making a considerable step up in size Investition , this 1994 Sea Ray 200 Signature is good choice.
When checking out a potential used boat it's great if you can have a look when it's out of the water. A close inspection of the Sea Ray while on a trailer reveals a hull without damage or blisters.

After a thorough dry land inspection it was time to launch the Sea Ray for an extensive sea trial. For a old model, twenty foot boat Sea Ray has an excellent engine in this 200 Signature.

Where to find a nice classic 73 svr190 for sale. Great shape and a good price.
Depends on where the boat is from. Several states don't issue titles for watercraft. Wisconsin doesn't title small watercraft. TN doesn't title boats. I've bought boats from both these states. Its really not a problem. My only advice, get a HIN check done and get ID from the seller.
Do a title search and see where last owner is , division of water craft will help you if you get a bill of sale.
Advice when you buy second hand Sea Ray Sundancer 300
You can easily put a lot more than what it's worth , plus fuel tanks are old , bellows trim sensors gimble intake hose the one that goes thhru the transom too ,all fuel lines , be careful. Transom and stringers are usually soft.
Underwater lights on there Sea Ray?
8000 lumens should be bright or not.
Unfortunately they are all wired to the same remote control switch. People wouldnt do through hull, just use the firewater 100w.
Note: the pressure from the water pushing past the light may put too much pressure on the threads. In Michigan they can not use them when running.
Your using the Garboard drain for something it wasn't designed for. On the other hand a lot of people use them.
Boat owners also believe the less holes in my hull the better. You're better off screwing in 2 lights 1/2 way up the water line in your hull, using permatex to seal the screws even is they are 1/2" long. Bring the wires up above the water line then drill a hole.I think I might do it the right way and use through hull lights in the transom.
So you can drill 2 holes in the back, one on each side of the outdrive, halfway up fro the water & waterline, and sealed them real good. Wired it to the dash board. They work awesome and super bright. Had them all last season and not a problem whatsoever.
The underwater lights - These are 2 of the blue 24 LED lights from loomisled. This is the 5th boat I've done with his lights. Way way way worth the money.

These are his newest version with 24 leds per bulb. Here is a photo of Fountain with his his first version lights of only 4 leds per bulb and they are bright as heck. So you can imagine how much brighter his new ones are.
If your old Sea Ray Seadancer does not have air conditioning.
Is it worth the expense of putting in a marine unit? not to breach the hull or ith another thru hull on the bottom of the boat.
Although the hatch units work great, I have built in now on my 1983 260 now and I can tell you, put the through hull in. The condensation should drain into the shower sump and the pump will pump it out. Some boats SeaRay for whatever reason used the whole mid bilge as a shower sump.
Also you can install a system on your 85 268 for around 500 dollars. Found a used 9000 btu unit on eBay for 250dollars. Made a pad and installed a through hull ran 3 ducts and a pump. it does take a lot of work to do it though.
Below are Easy 3 reasons the ac unit will be in the cabin under the dinette seat so to run it to a inlet you would have to drill through a few bulkheads into the bilge which would be a pain and have a really long inlet hose to purge.
Number 2 is with out a one way T valve whatever side your not using would suck air from the other and loose suction the only way around this would be have a valve at the thru-hull that you would have to switch every time depending on what you wanted to use.
Number 3 you have a mid bilge a foot away from where the ac would be installed already and it has a pad in the hull ready for the ac thru-hull and it would crazy to do all that work just to avoid drilling a hole that most other boats had in it from the factory.
the fresh water tank on my 390 EC is leaking - or?
The tank is aluminum. It get bout a hundred pin holes it. That where all the renovations begin. Cut aluminum tank up and extract, replace with expandable water tank. The water was coming in from the front bow rails. Still a pretty big job getting the water soaked foam out and cutting a hatch in.
Where to get a paint code for the dark blue dash paint on 1990 390 EC?
Most auto body supply paint stores have a lil gizmo that they can scan the color with and get a match. Otherwise you need to grab their book of color chips and sit out in the sun with your boat and match them up.
You can stop by just about any body shop and they will have a color chip book that they will let you borrow for a sec. Once you find your color you can have it mixed in either single stage or base coat clear coat. If you have the ability to spray it yourself your that much ahead... otherwise you will be at the mercy of who ever you choose to lay down the color you want. However If your color is just hazed/oxidized badly you can just water sand it out then re polish it.
It's not that hard to do but can be time consuming if doing it by yourself and have alot of color. I did my 32 Pachanga by myself and it's red "which is the worse color that oxidizes" mine was really really bad! I have over 36 hrs of just water sanding it but it is alot of red and it's 32' long.

Range for a mercruiser 7.4 inboard is 4000-4500 rpm.
If you are only making 4000-4200 at that light of a load you might be overpropped. You really need to be at 4500. 4500 rpm won't kill them. Don't do it excessively though. Maybe 15 seconds at a time for testing purposes.
Anything less means the engines are overloaded for some reason (dirty or fouled bottom/running gear, not enough gear reduction in the transmissions, overpropped, etc).

Fix a leaking gas tank
If you have to cut open the floor anyways you might as well not even mess with the tank that is in there just replace it with a plastic poly tank problem solved never again to arise. The nozzle where it gets filled and the vent tube is really, really on there. and theres probably 25 gallons of gas in it.
There's a few different things you can use either a product called marine Tex or JB Weld both are a two-part epoxy and Hardner. JB Weld should(jbweld.com) work fine.
If you end up having to replace the tank completely - go with a poly tank they flex unlike the aluminum ones that just crack and break at the seams.

You can use one that is a vacuum hand pump. - electric is easier. It goes down the dipstick tube. It's easier if u can warm up the engine first, flows quicker.

The treads on the end of your dip stick are 3/4 garden hose thread.
Get a femate fitting that is female 3/4ght x 5/8" hose barb, screw it on and suck oil right out of dipstick tube.
On an older Sea Ray: 89 340 leak in v birth
The rail has bolts all the way through. You can find them inside the storage door. In the front and back has a panel you can unscrew and find the bolts that are leaking. On an older Ray - theirs three bolts on every rail brace. It's nutted on the underside and always a bear to get off. But on the newer Rays there's a single bolt in the center of every brace.
"I had the same problem on my 91 270 DA and thought it may be the bow rails. I went and got duct seal putty and put it around the base of the bow rails and still had the leak. I then suspected the seam under the rubrail where two top and bottom halves of the boat are put together. Went and got some 3" wide duct tape and covered the rubrail from front to back and the leak stopped. I removed the duct tape and got some 3-M 5200 sealant I think it was, the kind that stays flexible and ran a bead along the topside of the rail and took care of the problem".
