It's a Classic

British boat builder, Marine Classics, based in Leeds is building up-to-date mahogany sportsboats. The design is classic but the construction techniques are the very late. The boats are constructed from epoxy, fine hardwoods, Kevlar and carbon fibre for strength and low maintenance. The hull is laminated from mahogany, Kevlar and carbon fibre and the topsides are 12mm thick and the bottom,

18mm. The whole boat is then encapsulated in epoxy resin, inside and out. This acts like the gel coat on a glass fibre boat The deck is laid with teak and walnut with the stem and topsides in mahogany. The engine is under the hatch on the after deck. A Mercury 60hp is fitted as standard and giving 30-40mph.

Each boat is hand-built to the individual client specifications with a delivery time of several months.

The payments are met in three stages; 25% with order, 25% on hull construction with the balance payable upon delivery. The Classic 21 (pictured here) is new to the company's range.

website at Bodinnick Boatyard in Fowey Harbour UK - http://www.peterwilliams-boatbuilder.co.uk/.

Peter Williams is very hard working with many dinghies being built at once so no time for fancy websites yet. Often the only way to see the work he does is to make an appointment and visit the yard. Even that is difficult as there is no direct road access, just a steep footpath from the road above Bodinnick Ferry.

Falmouth Marine School built the previous Number 8 dinghy for us with tutor Ralph Bird, some line drawings were taken of her as part of a short course in line drawing about 8 years ago but have never managed to trace them. Its a great design. Peter built the new improved dinghy above from measuring the details of the old number 8....which was built from Frankie Peters templates from 1890's.
