Our most recent trip to Miami brought us a chance to photograph
this beauty: a 38-foot Super Sport, featuring the typically
impressive handiwork that underscores the notion that Powerplay
is among the bestkept secrets in high performance powerboating
today. With its oversized cockpit, big cabin headroom and
fast hull design, this Powerplay is a head turner of major
proportions. Mold work and gelcoat application are exemplary.
In addition to its eyecatching exterior, the 38 is a solid
performer from bow to transom. Designed by Michael Peters
and Powerplay president Dan Weinstein, the boat features an
eight-foot sixinch beam and outstanding handling characteristics.
It's one of the tallest and deepest 38s around. Inside you'll
find a generator, air conditioner and a host of other amenities.
This model, owned by Oliver Longobardi of North Palm Beach,
Florida, is pushed by twin 525 Mercs with Bravo XRs featuring
the new short Sportmasters. Top speed is in the mid-80s. In
addition to the 38-foot Super Sport. Powerplay also offers
three configurations each of its 25- and 28-foot models, and
four configurations of the 33. including I/O and outboard
versions. This 38-footer. one of about a dozen produced so
far, is the largest Powerplay offers so far, although the
company plans to debut mod- els in the 42- to 45-foot range
